Music from the New World

April 25, 2026

Journey through elegance, color, and emotional depth in a richly textured program that celebrates the power of musical storytelling across time and style. The evening opens with Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, a luminous tribute to French Baroque elegance and the memory of fallen World War I soldiers. With its graceful lines and refined orchestration, the work blends lightness and poignancy in equal measure.

The program continues with Mendelssohn’s brilliant Trumpet Overture, a sparkling and triumphant work that highlights the instrument’s bold, heroic character with clarity and charm.

From there, the orchestra explores the evocative sound world of GRAMMY-nominated contemporary composer Anna Clyne in Restless Oceans. Inspired by the poetry of W. H. Auden, this vivid and atmospheric work captures both the turbulence and beauty of the sea through sweeping textures and shimmering orchestral color.

After intermission, the orchestra brings to life one of the most beloved symphonies in the repertoire: Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” This sweeping, heartfelt work blends Bohemian lyricism with the spirit of America, weaving together themes of longing, discovery, and hope into a powerful and unforgettable musical journey.
