Benjamin Fairfield

Ben Fairfield currently serves as Acting Principal Trumpet of the Dallas Opera Orchestra. He is also a member of the Dallas Chamber Symphony, the Principal Trumpet of the Abilene Philharmonic, the Co-Principal Trumpet of the West Texas Symphony in Midland, TX, and a member of the Lone Star Brass Quintet. Ben is the founder and Artistic Director of the West Texas Symphonic Brass and frequently performs as a guest member of the trumpet section with orchestras throughout Dallas/Fort Worth including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Plano Symphony, and the Irving Symphony. He is also one of the most active freelance trumpeters in the DFW area. The 2026 – 2027 season is his fourth season with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra.

He is a veteran of the United States Army, performing as a member of the United States Continental Army Band at Ft. Monroe, VA. With this group, he performed throughout the United States on tours with both the Concert Band and Brass Quintet.

Ben currently resides in Arlington, TX. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madison University and graduate degrees (MM, DMA) in trumpet performance from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. His teachers include Craig Morris, former Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Gilbert Johnson, former Principal Trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and James Kluesner Professor Emeritus of Trumpet at James Madison University. He has also studied briefly with Philip Smith, former Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic and Michael Sachs, Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Because of his participation on the 2024 GRAMMY nominated album “Impossible Dream” by Broadway star Aaron Lazar, Ben (along with the rest of the studio musicians on the album) was nominated for a GRAMMY during the 67th annual Grammy Awards in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category.
