Sharon Lacey

Sharon Lacey is a distinguished oboist whose passion for music began at the young age of 11, albeit under rather humorous circumstances—having been persuaded to play the instrument by a band director after expressing a desire to play flute. What started as a playful trick has blossomed into a lifelong commitment to the oboe, a journey that has taken her from a curious beginner to a celebrated musician and educator.

Sharon’s career is highlighted by her more than 30 year role as Principal Oboe with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. Most recently she achieved another significant milestone by winning the position of Principal Oboe with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her principal roles, Sharon is an active freelancer, performing with various orchestras and groups throughout Texas, showcasing her versatility and dedication to her craft.

An esteemed educator, Sharon operates a thriving private lesson studio where she shares her extensive knowledge and passion for the oboe with students of all ages. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also the joy of music, encouraging her students to explore their creativity and find their unique voices. Sharon’s commitment to education is evident in her personalized approach, fostering a nurturing environment that promotes growth and confidence in her students.

Sharon’s academic journey is as impressive as her professional accomplishments. She is a proud graduate of the University of North Texas, where she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of music. Her studies began at Stephen F. Austin University and the University of Northern Colorado, culminating with an enriching experience at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, Australia. There, she had the privilege of studying under the renowned oboist Jiri Tancibudek, further refining her technique and musical expression.
